French Toast


French Toast appears early in the game.  Newbies have been busy cooking pancakes in 3 minutes and then French Toast comes along needing a whopping 12 minutes.  Desperate to level up, that seems like an eternity (little did we know what was ahead).  I still find it slightly annoying and will buy it in the market if I see it!

But real French toast is another matter altogether!  No idea why it’s called French Toast, there doesn’t seem anything French about it, and it’s not toasted.  But hey ho.  Here’s my version, occasionally called eggy bread, which is what it is.


  1. Eggs – I used 2 to make 2 slices, but you can use more or less than this.  More eggs, more eggy!
  2. Bread – in my opinion you should use white sliced bread, and if it’s slightly stale all the better.  The bread in the photo is cut from a fresh loaf and the result was a bit pudding-y.  The BEST bread to use would be a Scottish plain loaf – heaven in a waxed wrapper!
  3. Milk – a splash
  4. Butter/oil – I used that 1 calorie spray oil, to make me feel better
  5. Salt/pepper if you like it.  Maybe some herbs.  Some people put cinnamon in.


  1. Lightly beat the egg and milk together in a bowl and season if wanted.
  2. Heat a frying pan with the butter
  3. Dip the bread in the egg and milk mix.  Some people leave it in to soak right through, but I think that takes us into bread-and-butter pudding territory and that’s not in Food Street, so I just dip it to coat it.
  4. When the bread is covered on both sides and the pan is hot, fry the bread.  How long is up to you, whether you like the golden-brown just nicely cooked look of the Food Street French toast or the more well done version of mine.  However long you take, it won’t take 12 minutes.

Then eat it.
